Io.
9 X 4 X 1" Cast in Plaster/hydrastone and
antiqued by burying in the earth before completely dry. Sold
Hera almost caught her husband
Zeus with a mistress named Io,
a fate avoided by Zeus who turned
Io into a lovely white heifer.
But Hera was not totally misled and compelled Zeus to
give her
the heifer as a present. Once Io was given to Hera, she
placed her in the charge of Argus,
with all his eyes. Hera
then sent a gadfly to sting Io as she wandered about the earth.
Io was driven by this aggravation to far-away Egypt,
where she became a priestess
to the Egyptian goddess—Isis.
