The Iris 12" X 14" print $400
In Greek mythology Iris, the goddess of the rainbow,
would take messages from the 'eye' of heaven to
earth. Iris also transported the souls of women who had
died to the underworld. With the coming of
Christianity, the archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary
with an Iris, as the symbol of purity, in his hand.
In the fifth century the French kings incorporated
the iris into the royal coat of arms as the Fleur-de-Lys
and it remains
the symbol of all things French.
